Dr. Rajan Mahtani is easily among the most reputable and honorable businessmen in Zambia. He is known for several successful organizations such as Mahtani Group of Companies, Finsbury Investments and Finance Bank Zambia. Despite having such reputation and recognition from all spheres of business and society, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is often targeted by scrupulous individuals and groups for profit motives, out of jealousy or damaging the reputation of an honest businessmen. Dr. Rajan Mahtani fought for more than a decade for the legal takeover of the Portland Cement Zambia factory. This factory was unethically taken over from him and despite sharing all evidences and testimonials at the Lusaka High Court, he was not given justice due to improper decision-making from the court. After this Dr. Rajan Mahtani approached the higher Court of Appeal. The case went for around nine months at the higher Court of Appeal and after looking into all evidences and testimonials, the judge at the higher Court of Appeal announced that Dr. Rajan Mahtani was indeed the actual owner of the Portland Cement Zambia factory.
This announcement was made after evaluation of several critical evidences. For instance, it was found thatDr. Rajan Mahtani made a payment of one billion kwachas to the Portland Cement Zambia limited for taking over majority shareholding of the factory. The original Shareholders’ Agreement also confirmed that Dr. Rajan Mahtani took over 58 percent shares of the factory after making the payment. The final verdict was given on 31st January 2019 and Dr. Mahtani was declared winner in the long-pending Portland Cement Zambia case.
