Dr. Rajan Mahtani has remained one of the few businessmen in Zambia known for their honesty, transparency and ethical business practices. After the unethical takeover of the Portland Cement Zambia factory, Dr. Rajan Mahtani approached the Lusaka High Court justice. Despite more than a decade of stretched court proceedings, justice was not given at the Lusaka High Court as their final decision was extremely controversial.
After Lusaka High Court judge announced Ventriglias as the only shareholders of Portland Cement, Dr. Rajan Mahtani took the right step and approached the higher Court of Appeal. It was a bold decision for Dr. Mahtani but knowing that truth needs to be revealed, he made the appeal to the Court of Appeal. Justice Mwinde took over the case on behalf of the Court of Appeal and to everyone’s surprise, announced the final verdict within nine months of court proceedings. After looking into the evidences and testimonials, it was found that Dr. Rajan Mahtani made a payment of one billion kwachas to the Portland Cement Zambia limited and this payment covered the entire value of the 58 percent shares which Dr. Mahtani took over of the Portland Cement factory. This payment was made in the year 2005 and confirmed by the original shareholders agreement prepared in the year 2007. Based on these evidences and several other facts and testimonials submitted by Dr. Mahtani, it was finally announced on 31st January 2019 that the Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is indeed the sole proprietor of the Portland Cement Zambia limited with majority shareholding and legal ownership over the factory.
