For honest and ethical businessmen like Dr. Rajan Mahtani, the path towards business success is of significant struggle. Dr. Mahtani has established his name as one of the major private contributors of the economy of Zambia. Most of his companies in Zambia have gained huge financial and social success and are known for providing employment opportunities to significant number of individuals. Some of his top companies are Finsbury Investments, Mahtani Group of Companies and Finance Bank Zambia. He is also the owner of the Portland Cement Zambia, a cement-manufacturing factory which was under dispute for more than a decade ago. During this dispute, several court proceedings occurred and it took more than a decade for the court to provide final proceedings for the case. On the other hand, the final verdict by the Lusaka High Court was a different fiasco altogether. Despite all evidences indicating Dr. Mahtani to be the rightful owner, justice Nkonde from the Lusaka High Court announced Ventriglias as only shareholders of the Portland Cement Zambia.
To counteract this unethical judgement, Dr. Rajan Mahtani approached the higher Court of Appeal. The judge at the Court of Appeal was justice Mwinde who announced the final decision on the case on 31st January 2019. According to this final decision, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani was the actual owner and majority shareholder of the Portland Cement Zambia factory. This decision was given based on the evidences suggesting that Dr. Rajan Mahtani paid a sum of one billion kwachas to Portland Cement Zambia limited which covered the entire value of the 58 percent shares which he took over.
Based on these evidences, Justice Mwinde from the higher Court of Appeal finalized that Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the majority shareholder and actual owner of the factory.
